Climate Smart Rural Water and Sanitation
The Climate Smart Rural WASH Development Project in The Gambia, funded by the African Development Bank with a budget of USD 38.5 million, aims to improve the socio-economic and environmental conditions of rural and peri-urban communities by enhancing access to sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. Implemented from an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) perspective, the project will deliver climate-resilient infrastructure, build service delivery capacity, and support livelihoods through community-based water management and climate adaptation efforts. Benefiting approximately 500,000 people across 144 communities, the project focuses on expanding safe water and sanitation coverage, promoting environmental sustainability, and creating opportunities for youth and women.
