About Us
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) of The Gambia is dedicated to the sustainable management and regulation of the country's water resources. Established under the Water Act of 1979, the DWR coordinates water-related policies, ensures the provision of accurate weather and climate data, and safeguards the population to promote food security through active participation and effective monitoring. Guided by Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles, our policy objectives recognize water as a common right, emphasize environmental protection, and maintain ecological integrity. The DWR comprises five key units: Hydrology Division, Meteorology Division, Rural Water Supply Division, Water Quality Division, and Communication and Data Analysis Division. These divisions collaboratively collect and analyze hydro-meteorological data, manage national water supplies, predict and manage flood and drought conditions, and ensure the provision of safe, clean water in rural and peri-urban communities. Our commitment to transparency, accountability, and community involvement ensures that The Gambia’s water resources are preserved and optimally utilized for the nation’s socio-economic development.
